1) African Serval Cats

African Servals are not right out of Africa they have been captive breed to keep a large gene pool in captivity. They are commonly used in outreach education programs because of there smaller size compared to many exotic cats. Serval Cats are not like raising a Savannah cat. Servals require special care, supervision, attention, dedication, and a 20 year at least life long commitment.

Savannah cats have domestic blood mixed in making them more likely to have domestic characteristics such as good litter box habits. Savannah cats are much better if not 100% all the time with using a litter box.

2) Picking Serval cat or a Savannah cat?

I know your doing lots of research on the computer, remember we all have been there.   Its very important for you to understand a African Serval is NEVER going to be lap cat. On average it cost at minimum 100$ dollar a month to feed on a special diet only,  thousands in vet bills, enclosures, special toy and ect.  They are wonderful animals for some people to own, but it is very expensive to own one in the long run.  In comparison an F1 Savannah cost thousands of dollars less in the long run.

3) Do you have the time and the money?

It take hours upon hours to take care of a full size serval, there poop alone rivals my springer spaniels any day!  They almost always pee on something of value (You would be surprised what they can manage to pee upon.  Most male servals do spray even when neutered. I personally am willing to deal with steam washing my carpets every day (The are dirty anyways so why not?)
