Breed profile: Savannah cats are most well know for there wonderful temperament and characteristics. Such as being very loyal, easy to train, high intelligence, being family friendly, dog like personality, some play fetch like a dog and many even like water! Known worldwide for being one of the largest domestic cat breeds the Savannah cat now hold the record for the worlds tallest domestic cat.

Size: Measurements above are an average for F1hybrids four F1 females only. The most common question asked is how “big” a Savannah cat will get. It would be better to ask how “tall” a Savannah cat gets as they as a leggy cat breed giving a taller appearance. Average size for F1hybrids 6 month old F1 savannah cats is as follows; 19 inches height and 20 inches length. If you like those measurements then chances are you would enjoy an F2 savannah kitten from F1hybrids. Because of the variety of domestic genes found if F3-F8 savannah an average on size can not be provided. Consider this when you get to the F4 generation you have three stud males used which will have a high variety of different genetics.

Compare: To compare the above F1 measurements the average domestic cat is 3-5 inches shorter in height and 4-6 inches shorter in length. Although though not all Savannah cats are tall they are all exotic in their own unique way. The personality of Savannah cat is their “biggest” attribute. Personality: be surprised to find a Savannah cat curled up under the covers with you! Although Savannah cats look exotic they love and thrive off human companions. The most appealing aspect to Savannah cats for us was, with proper exercise, savannah cats can live in apartments unlike most dog breeds that interested us. Savannah cat colors

Colors: colors for Savannah cats are silver spotted tabby, brown spotted tabby and black(AKA melanistic). Any coat pattern other than solid spots are non-standard. Colors of the hair, skin, and eyes are caused by the presence of melanin. Melanin is deposited in the hair shafts in the form of microscopic granules which vary in shape, size, and arrangement thus giving a variety of colors in cats. The Egyptian mau in the background can cause front legs to be short but this is not the standard. The head should present it’s self triangular in shape. Savannah cats ears should be on top of the head ready to hear like sonars. Savannah cats ears should also be rounded at the tops not pointy or tipped. And the nose should have luscious leather appearance coming from the serval. Coat should have clear contrast, ticking of the coat should be avoided as much as possible. Breed type should come before coat pattern although general health should always come first.

Health:Savannah cats are a relatively new cat breed. One of the greatest perks of being a new cat breed is the genetic gene pool is vast and hearty.

Prices: There is a scam out there that people confuse with Savannah cats. This scam is the Ashera cat which is priced at $25,000 – $150,000 dollars. These are really just Savannahs being sold as the fake Ashera. If you desire a exotic looking cat we suggest you consider a F2 savannah or F3 Savannah as a pet. Please pick you kitten not for size but according to your lifestyle.

Apartments: it is not recommenced that you keep any cat in a very small apartment, cats can be a great option for those living in an apartment. Its your job as an owner to provide exercise, training and stimulation to your cat. If you provide these things you should have no issues.
