Introduction to Savannah cats

Savannah cats are most well know for there wonderful characteristics such as being very loyal to their owners, easy to train because of their intelligence, family friendly, dog like personality, some play fetch like a dog and many even like water! Known worldwide for being one of the largest domestic cat breeds the Savannah cat now hold the record for the worlds tallest domestic cat. All though not all Savannah cats are large they are all exotic in their own unique way. Savannah cat kittens resemble a Cheetah or Leopard but are actually produced through selective breeding with the African Serval cat. Savannah cats traits:

The most appealing aspect to Savannah cats for us was, with proper exercise, savannah cats can live in apartments unlike most dog breeds that interested us. The more we read about Savannah cats we realized they were very dog like. Known worldwide because of the loyalty to humans just like dogs. Savannah cats will love you till the end of time, and guess what? They are energetic cats that don’t sleep all day long like some cat breeds. Savannah cats can live up to 20 long healthy years. We have two medium size dogs now that all Savannah cat kittens are raised around from day one. As far as the Savannah kittens know the dog are just cats with out spots! :)

Standard colors for savannah cats are silver, brown and black. Colors in hair, skin, and eyes are caused by the presence of melanin. It is accepted by the cat fanciers association that melanin is deposited in the hair shafts in the form of microscopic granules which vary in shape, size, and arrangement, giving a variety of colors in cats. Several genes being present at the same time can cause variation in the density of the the melanin granules. In cats you have two base colors red and black.

Savannah cats should have a horizontal pattern that flows from head to toes. The neck is long with a regal look. Legs are long but with power to them. The head should present it’s self triangular in shape. The ears should be on top of the head ready to hear like sonars. And the nose should have luscious leather appearance coming from the serval.

   Savannah cats are a relatively new cat breed. One of the greatest perks of being a new cat breed is the genetic gene pool is vast and hearty.




2. Ethical prices
   There is a scam out there that people confuse with Savannah cats. This scam is the Ashera cat which is priced at $25,000 – $150,000 dollars. These are really just Savannahs being sold as the fake Ashera. If you desire a exotic looking cat we suggest you consider a F2 savannah or F3 Savannah as a pet. Please pick you kitten not for size but according to your lifestyle.




3. Apartments
   Although it is not recommenced that you keep any cat in a very small apartment, cats can be a great option for those living in an apartment. Its your job as an owner to provide exercise, training and stimulation to your cat. If you provide these things you should have no issues.
